ARTIST’S STATEMENT
For me art is about connections - to nature, to people, to ideas, and best of all to yourself!
For me art is about spirituality - a moment of quiet meditation, a moment of introspection. My art is about being alive –an energy that is vital, exciting, innovative and explorative. Art is also very much about moments of extroversion, where you want to share your vitality, with the entire world. The creative experience can be very solitary or very much about sharing,
Creativity is a celebration of one’s grandeur- it is a celebration of life. We choose to be creative – that takes desire, determination and perseverance.
COMMISSIONED ART AND PORTRAITURE
It also provides interest to convey a complete picture of the person. A landscape background that is complementary, a hobby that is appropriate, an interior room that enhances the mood are all ideas that can be included in the painting.
Painting style is also an important consideration. Since I am a traditionalist, if the client desires an “Impressionistic” or “Expressionistic” concept, I will try to unite the classical understanding of face and figure with the impressionist’s understanding of light and colour, or the expressionist’s colour excitement.
COMMISSIONED ART AND PORTRAITURE
The commissioned work of art is unique – because you not longer have to just please yourself but the artist must also satisfy the client!
The portrait commission is even more involved because the artist must perceive the complete essence – the subject’s personality, mood and individual dynamics. The client's self-perception and their vision of the completed portrait study is most critical. Portraits in oil are usually very much valued and can become a family heirloom. More casual approaches to the portrait can be created using different media: acrylic, pastel, coloured pencil, mixed media, as well as watercolour. It also provides interest to convey a complete picture of the person. This oil painting of a boy fishing was commissioned by his grandmother who wanted to convey a somewhat romantic mood along with his love of fishing. It was painted from a series of photographs.

ROMANTIC
Rich fabric, expressionistic colour, charged brushwork and dramatic light, can convey an attitude of excitement and glamour. My daughter is captured in a glamorous party dress with exciting lighting and colour attitude.
IMPRESSIONISTIC
In this painting the classical aspect of face and figure in portraiture is united with the Impressionist’s concepts of light and colour. The outdoor light energy and colour splashes are echoed to surround model.
ABSTRACT/ NON OBJECTIVE
The client commissioned a large tryptic to energize her room with light and the dynamics of texture and movement.
This amazing garden created and photographed by the client was transformed from her image to an acrylic painting.

CLASSICAL RENAISSANCE
In this classical, religious oil painting figures form a pyramid, which is paramount to the dramatic angelic depiction of the Christ child. The strong composition, along with subtle colour, peace and emotional harmony, come together to portray idealized beauty. This painting was commissioned by a European gentleman, to complete a room, decorated with antique furniture.
